Elevating Influence: Behind the Scenes of a Personal Brand Photoshoot with Devolis Newburn

When Arizona author, relationship strategist, and media founder Devolis Newburn, MIS, PMP® reached out with a simple request—“I’ve been searching for a really talented photographer”—we knew this was going to be a special collaboration.

With the launch of his new brand, F.Y. Creative Media, and a growing audience for his book 365 Ways a Year to Cater to Her, Devolis was ready to elevate his visual presence across the board. He needed photos that captured the essence of his professional identity—business, casual, lifestyle, and personal brand—to be used across his website, email campaigns, social media, and promotional materials.

As an Arizona commercial photographer specializing in personal brand photography, headshots, lifestyle portraits, and studio shoots, I was thrilled to help him bring this vision to life.

From Vision to Execution: The Creative Brief

After reviewing our Influencer’s Edge package, Devolis was all in. His goal? Capture studio-quality portraits and outdoor lifestyle images that reflect both his leadership and personal warmth. We chose a hybrid approach:

• Studio Location: The Hive Studio in Phoenix, Arizona
• Outdoor Location: Downtown Phoenix, including rooftops and modern urban backdrops
• Outfits: Four total, ranging from business professional to casual-chic

We scheduled the shoot for a golden-hour morning session, giving us the soft, clean lighting needed for that crisp, confident energy Devolis wanted in every frame.

The Photoshoot Story: Expect the Unexpected

🌇 Downtown Phoenix, 7:00–8:30 AM

The day kicked off with a twist—Devolis got pulled over on his way to the shoot. While he handled that, I used the time to scout alternative locations. Our original downtown spot near the Arizona Science Center was under construction, but pivoting quickly, we found new spaces with strong lines, great lighting, and visual texture.

A highlight? The rooftop of a downtown parking garage. Not only did it provide dynamic skyline shots—it gave us standout imagery Devolis loved (and yes, security asked us to leave… after we got the perfect shots 😉).

Two outfit changes, great light, and lots of laughs later, we wrapped the outdoor segment.

📸 Studio Time at The Hive

Back at The Hive Studio, we had a slight delay due to a last-minute staffing issue, but we kept the energy high. Devolis had access to a private green room to prep his final two looks while I dialed in the strobe lighting setup for high-contrast, studio-grade portraits.

Though not a seasoned model, Devolis took direction like a pro—relaxed, open, and coachable. The result? Bold, expressive images that perfectly balanced his executive persona with the charisma of a bestselling author and media founder.

Post-Production & Delivery: From Proofs to Perfection

Before heading out, Devolis reviewed an initial gallery and flagged his favorites. He wanted a second round of feedback from his wife before final selections—and ultimately, he chose 30 final images.

We made custom edits based on his feedback—removing blemishes, perfecting skin tone, and delivering both color and black-and-white versions for added versatility. The final gallery reflected not just his personal brand, but the vision and impact he’s building with F.Y. Creative Media.
